#1 Fashion Accessory: Scarves!

Posted by Luanne | Posted in Tips & Trends, Tuesday's Tips & Trends | Posted on 16-12-2008

If this is a surprise to you, you really do need to get out more! This summer, I know…summer, there was a craze for scarves. This winter it continues on and off the runway.

The Loop scarf style
This one is so easy and results in a sleek and casual look. Take any scarf and fold it in half to create the longest line possible. Wrap the scarf around your neck with the loop on one side and two ends on the other. Now, take the two loose ends and “thread the needle” so to speak. Put the ends through the loop created when you folded the scarf in half. You can wear this look in front or over to the side.

The Muffler scarf style
This is the hottest look going. Fold a large scarf into a triangle and place it over your décolleté like a bib. Tie it loosely in back and bring the ends around to the front. You can let the ends hang loose or tie them loosely under the bib or over the bib. Turn it a bit to the side and off you go.

The Tie scarf style
An oblong scarf works really well with this one but a square scarf can also work. Simply drape the scarf around your neck with the two ends hanging down in front. Don’t worry about them being even; remember the look is casual, tossed on. Now take one end and tie a loose knot. Take the other end and slip through the knot similar to a men’s tie. This knot can easily be adjusted to lie higher or lower.

You don’t really have to tie it, or knot it, or loop it. Just throw it around your neck and go.

Try it, you’ll like it. Don’t try too hard though, have fun with it. Keep it casual too. This trend is not meant to be a stuffy look. Send me your pictures and tips for this years #1 accessory!

Kisses!

OK, It’s me again, but I have to tell you that I have been whining for a week because I lost the scarf that my Mom made me. My FAWESOME husband just found it!!! I am soooo  happy. I heart him. I heart him. I heart him!

I just did all the cool knots. Love it!! If you know anyone who crochets or knits, ask for one for Christmas. Make sure it is long….they must be very long.

What do these three ladies have in common? Nope…it’s not blonde hair or anything bad that came to mind (Cameron Diaz is not so bad) Anyway, it’s HIGHLIGHTER!

One of the #1 trends of 2008-2009 is having a beautiful, healthy, natural glow using bronzers and highlighters.

powder pals

With new Mary Kay ® Mineral Bronzing Powders and Mary Kay® Mineral Highlighting Powders, customers have more options than ever before for defining facial features, adding a warm glow or highlighting and illuminating! This radiant pair offers complete freedom to mix and match any shade combination to customize the perfect look for any skin tone.

Featuring our new vitamin A-, C- and E-enriched formula, each bronzing and highlighting unit actually includes two shades that can be swirled together with a Compact Powder Brush or the Powder Brush from the Mary Kay

® Brush Collection for the most natural effect (tap off excess product after swirling). Each unit is either all matte or all shimmer and includes a recommended skin tone, so you can help customers easily select what’s right for them. Plus, each bronzer and highlighter doubles as cheek and eye color. Two units fit side by side in the new Mary Kay® Compact.

Highlighting powders illuminate lighter skin tones for a

more radiant look.

Apply:

  • Under the eyes (great to use after work to brighten eyes after a long day)
  • At the sides of the nose
  • Along smile lines
  • Below the lower lip at the crease of the chin
  • On the chin if you have a heartshaped face to help make the chin look wider and balance the face

Mary Kay® Mineral Highlighting Powder

Application Tips

Apply either shade to the area of the face you want to highlight: tops of cheekbones, down the center of the nose, above the center of the upper lip (this defines the lip and gives lips a pouty look without lip liner).

Use

Pink Porcelain only on areas you want to brighten, listed below. (You would not  want to use Pink Stardust because the shimmer is too intense for these small areas.) Note that Pink Porcelain can be used in thesame way as the MK Signature® Facial Highlighting Pen to instantly brighten and lift these shadowy areas of the face.

® Mineral Bronzing Powder

Application Tips

  • When used on ivory and beige skin tones, bronzers provide a sun-kissed effect. Apply where the sun hits you: forehead, cheeks, nose, shoulders and décolleté (to even out skin tone).
  • When used on bronze skin tones, bronzers add warmth to the complexion and can even out skin tone.

Got Hips?

Posted by Luanne | Posted in Tuesday's Tips & Trends | Posted on 24-06-2008

Today on Tips & Trends, I want to talk about hiding your hips. Now some of you, I’m sure, don’t need to hide your hips. For those of us that do….there are some definite fashion “no no’s” and definite fashion “yes yes’s!”

No No’s

  1. No pleats! This I would think is a no brainer, but I am still amazed that women will wear pants with pleats. Especially jeans. There is a reason why people make fun of “Mom jeans”, they are stupid looking. Period. Don’t wear them. With some dress pants, pleats are appropriate, but not for those of us trying to hide our hips. Stay away from them Ladies.
  2. No pockets on the back side. A lot of the pants kids are wearing these days are low, low cut, and have pockets on the butt. Big hips? Don’t do it. In fact try to avoid side pockets and opt for pockets that are closer to the zipper.
  3. No skinny jeans. Are you sad? If you’re as old as I am, I’m sure you miss the awesome skinny jeans trend from the 80’s. We have to let go girls. If you are between the ages of 35 and 45, you know what I am talking about and you also know you don’t have the same hips you had in the 80’s.
  4. Don’t wear wide belts or anything that draws attention to your hips.

Yes, yes’s

  1. Wide leg trousers are great at deemphasizing the hips. They are very in and very concealing. Comphy too!
  2. Wear dark colored pants. White or light colored pants will make your hips look bigger. Can’t have that, now can we? No matter what, make sure that your top is lighter than your pants or skirt. Dark colors recede.
  3. Wear longer skirts. Avoid short skirts that draw attention to your hips.
  4.  Accessorize with earrings and/or bulky necklaces instead of accessorizing with belts.
  5. Buy the correct size. When pants are too tight, they ride up and …well, we’ve all seen it. Buy pants and skirts that are comfortable and the correct size.

Hope that helps! (If you didn’t need help in this area, I hate you will have some awesome ideas for you next Tuesday.

To Tan or Not to Tan?

Posted by Luanne | Posted in Cosmetics, Tuesday's Tips & Trends | Posted on 17-06-2008

I can defiantly tell you that tanning is a “No, no!”  A lot of people seem to feel ok about tanning beds because they don’t have those harmful UVB rays…well…I hate to tell you, but the UVA rays are harmful too. Not to mention how leathery it makes your skin look. It is just not good for you. Period.

If you really feel like you need that sun kissed look, use a bronzer, a self tanning lotion, or get sprayed at the salon. If done correctly, all three of these are great options.

MK has bronzers and highlighters. Stay tuned for a class on using both of these. As far as self tanning lotion goes, our new Subtle Tanning Lotion is a must have. The tan develops subtly within several days. Maximum color is reached within a week. Follow these tips and you will have an awesome tan.

  1. Don’t purchase a “cheap” tanning lotion. “Cheap” doesn’t mean it has to be expensive, it just means that you need to do your research and find one that is recommended by someone you trust and be willing to pay a little more for it if need be. Orange is NOT what we are going for here.
  2. Exfoliate: Use it after you get out of the bath or shower so that you can do an all over exfoliating while you’re in the shower. I use MK Loofah body cleanser for my body and of coarse the amazing Microdermabrasion Set for my face and neck.
  3. Do NOT put it on dry skin. Dryness grabs color and you will look patchy. If your skin is dry, try using an intense body lotion for several days prior. Of course I’m sure all of you are using skin care on your face, so it shouldn’t be dry.
  4. Do NOT initially put the lotion on areas where there are creases in your skin (elbows, knees, heals, and toes) or hair (eyebrows, upper lip) The lotion will naturally collect there and cause a deeper tanning. Do all of your body avoiding those areas and then wipe back over these areas with what is left over on your hands…don’t directly apply the lotion in those areas…leftovers only!
  5. Wash hands!!! Make sure you wash with soap and wash under your nails….you’ll be glad you did!
  6. Let it dry for the amount of time recommended before dressing. The MK Subtle Tanning Lotion only takes about 3-5 minutes. It is AWESOME!
  7. Don’t overuse. None of us want to look like Lindsay Lohan….on so many levels, but this is one of them.

On the other hand, fair healthy beautiful skin is always “in.” Remember, take care of your skin and call me if you have any questions.

Enjoy the sun!
