Red Lips/Tips

One of the big color trends of 2008 is red! Red dresses, red jackets, red handbags, red shoes, red jewelry, and red lips. If you haven’t seen it out there, take a look around:

It doesn’t stop there:
Here’s what I want you to pay attention to…..never have it red from head to toe. If you have a red accent such as a handbag or shoes….don’t also have a red dress and a red jacket and red lipstick. Don’t get me wrong, red lipstick is very in….but not when it matches your dress. As a general rule, if you have glamor lips, tone down your eyes. If you have dramatic eyes, tone down your lips. Let each make an appropriate statement when set up to pop. This rule also works true with this new “red” trend.

Beautiful lips and nails…..

…notice….no bright red lipstick. In most cases, the accessories are nude or black.
Red is the trendy color of the season, but if your going to wear it, wear it! Make it pop!

ok, SO…tell me style guru, what color lipstick should I wear with my RED bridesmaid’s dress in the wedding I am in on Saturday?? TELL ME!!! I am LOST without YOU!
Jenny, do you have a rose color, like Dusty Rose, Frosted Rose, Berry Kiss or Garnetfrost? Red’s either have a blueish undertone or an orange undertone. I am assuming your dress is what they call “true red” which has the blue undertone. If so, you need to go with berry-like colors for your lips. If it leans towards orange, you can go with colors like Apricot Glaze, Sunset, Sweet Nectar, or Sunburst. If you were to be wearing red on a “normal” day, I would even suggest sheer blush, but you need more color than that since you are going to be in pictures.

BTW, a shiny lip always looks good in a portrait, but a shinny face is a no, no. Feel free to use your gloss, and make sure you take a pressed powder along to touch up before pictures.

I am thinkng that RED is the new black. What do think? You look great in the new black!
No dsto, PINK is the new black. Just kidding, I just love pink…
Anyway, I agree with everything you said Lu. The big mistake that women tend to make is the red lips with the dramatic eyes–this is a no-no, unless of course you are going for that “working girl” look…
So, here’s my question, I know better than to match my lips to my red ensemble, but can I match them to my accessories? Like if I am wearing red shoes and a red purse, can my lipstick also be a bright, true red to match?
Also, something I have learned about gloss with red lips, is if you just apply it to the center, bottom lip, it gives you a sexy, pouty look, without looking over the top shiny. Ooh-la-la!
Pulling off the red lipstick along with the accessories is a definite can do.
The gloss tip is great. In fact, if you have a gloss with a little neutral color in it, you could put a little red lipstick on (blotted) and then go over it with a neutral or metal lip gloss (not clear) and that would work with a red outfit. Your lips won’t be bright red, but the will still have the same undertone. That looks like what Cameron Diaz did in the pictures above.
